Grants Available for Historic Sites Representing Black History

Black history in American history—but for far too long, historic sites of African American achievement, resilience, and activism have been overlooked.

That’s why, in 2017, the National Trust for Historic Preservation launched the African American Cultural Heritage Action Fund, dedicated to preserving and protecting the places and stories that represent generations of African American activism, achievement, and resilience.

Today, we are proud to announce that the Action Fund is currently accepting applications for this year’s National Grant Program. These grants are designed to support capital projects, organizational capacity building, project planning, and programming and interpretation activities at historic sites of African American history across the country.

Last year, the Action Fund awarded $3.8 million to 40 projects, which you can read more about at the link here.

If you are involved with a site that you think could benefit from preservation funding and expertise, visit the Action Fund’s website linked here to learn more about the program and eligibility requirements. Applications are due by February 1.

Together, we can make sure that we tell the full American story.

Other Deadlines from the National Trust:
- January 12: Preserve Route 66 Legacy Business Grant Fund
- January 12: PastForward 2024 Call for Ideas
- January 12: National Preservation Award Nominations
- February 1: Conserving Black Modernism Grant
- February 1: National Trust Preservation Fund
