Project Coordinator - Historic Preservation Grant Program

Salary Range: $30.14 – $37.68 per hour

The City of Austin Economic Development Department Heritage Tourism Division provides leadership and management for the City’s heritage tourism programs that derive community and economic benefits while honoring and preserving Austin as a place of personal heritage.

The Project Coordinator position is responsible for administering preservation grant program guidelines and procedures that restore historic sites and promote Austin's heritage tourism activities.

The dynamic position requires experience in monitoring and providing direction for preservation techniques consistent with national and local standards for the treatment of historic properties. Experience with the interpretation of projects that lead with a lens of equity is highly encouraged.

Responsibilities

Collaborates and communicates project and/or program information with internal and external customers;
Monitors and evaluates grant program effectiveness and implements improvement strategies;
Determines grant program goals, objectives, and resource requirements;
Assists in the development and monitoring of project and/or program budgets;
Assists in the development of short/long-range plan recommendations on projects or work on routine projects whereby preservation techniques used are well known and present no unusual engineering problems - all capital projects will also undergo an additional preservation architectural review;
Provides preservation technical advice and assistance to division and department management, field personnel, contractors, etc.

Qualifications
Experience with grants administration, strategy development, and contract compliance;
Regulatory project review experience interpreting and applying local and national historic design standards, and/or applicable preservation ordinances and best practices for preserving, rehabilitating, restoring, and reconstructing historic buildings, sites, or districts;
Experience providing preservation technical assistance for historic sites or historic districts;
Skill in planning, coordinating, and executing assignments, projects and programs;
Skill in data analysis and problem-solving;
Monitors milestones and critical dates for preservation projects and activities working directly with architects, contractors, and/or historic property managers to recommend appropriate historic treatments and tourism amplification to ensure compliance with contractual obligations.
