The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration’s (MDOT SHA) Office of Planning and Preliminary Engineering (OPPE) Environmental Planning Division is recruiting for a Senior Architectural Historian (Environmental Analyst IV) position in Baltimore City. This position is open to anyone who meets the minimum and selective qualifications listed below. This is a position specific recruitment. The resulting list of eligible candidates will be used to fill this vacancy or function only. You will need to reapply for any future recruitment conducted for this job classification.  

Nature of work: This position serves as the Senior Architectural Historian in the Cultural Resources Section of the Environmental Planning Division (EPLD) of the Office of Planning and Preliminary Engineering (OPPE).  The Senior Architectural Historian is responsible for identifying, evaluating, treating, and documenting historic standing structures; assessing project impacts and effects to cultural resources; recommending and developing means of minimizing and mitigating adverse effects; coordinating projects with appropriate agencies; and ensuring compliance with a variety of state and federal laws and regulations to complete required review processes. The position provides leadership within a team structure and serves as a subject matter expert in architectural history and compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The Senior Architectural Historian is responsible for providing technical assistance and training to EPLD staff and managing the MDOT SHA Historic Highway Bridge Program and consultant contracts.
