Assistant Preservation Project Manager – Full-time

We are seeking an individual to fill the
position of Assistant Preservation Project Manager at Fallingwater (Mill Run,
PA). This position is to provide design and
construction project management for the preservation of Fallingwater, a UNESCO
World Heritage Site designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and located in Mill Run,
Pennsylvania. This position requires expert knowledge and experience with
historic preservation theory and practice as well as a thorough knowledge of
construction project management, including a familiarity with The Secretary of the Interior’s Standards
for the Treatment of Historic Properties.
The Assistant Preservation Project Manager will have the ability to carry out preservation projects requiring
the application of historic preservation, engineering, architectural, and
landscape architectural standards and methods. This will include working
closely with the Senior Director of Preservation and Collections, the Director
of Maintenance, the Maintenance Assistant, and the Collections Manager and
Archivist to monitor preservation maintenance efforts across the site, document
their progress, and transfer images and documentation to the Fallingwater
archive.
Job Duties:
Participate in all aspects of historic preservation projects including:
- Surveying and
condition assessments, creating written and photographic documentation, preparing
specifications and assessment and treatment reports, monitoring and ensuring
quality performance of conservators, technicians, and external contractors and
subcontractors, reviewing and
understanding all aspects of construction drawings and specifications, performing
and/or directing conservation treatments.
- Successfully perform all aspects of project management, including: Preparing draft proposals for potential projects including budgets and staffing plan, organizing resources, staffing, and technology required to successfully perform projects, managing project paperwork, schedules, material submittals, work plans, and progress reports, conducting project related communications with contractors and vendors
- Regularly review the conditions of Fallingwater to maintain an ongoing assessment and works with the Director of Preservation and Collections to prioritize concerns.
- Ensures compliance with design specifications, building codes and construction safety requirement.
- Continually manages complex preservation projects, often involving a multiplicity of systems and areas of specialization, including masonry, carpentry, painting, and window repairs.
- Provides hands-on support for all construction activities and assists with training of maintenance team members in museum-quality preservation methods and techniques.
- Works with Collections Manager and Archivist to archive historic and present-day preservation projects, including architectural drawings, reports, and photographs.
Qualifications:
Graduate
or college degree or certificate in historic preservation, architecture, preservation
studies, building trades, construction management, or a related field.
Other
combinations of work experience and education will be considered.
At
least five years of work experience at an historic property, and a familiarity
of preservation construction projects at various scales.
Experience
with stone masonry, reinforced concrete construction, and rolled steel
preferred.
Knowledge
of grant writing and reporting for a variety of grant programs.
Knowledge
of Frank Lloyd Wright architecture and early to mid-20th century
building technologies.
Excellent
writing, editing, research, and analytical skills.
Ability
to work weekends, evenings, and/or holidays as required.
Valid driver’s
license.

Position Duration
This is a full-time position.
Pay:
The starting pay range for this position is $44,000-52,000/annually.
Please include salary
expectations. In consideration of advanced qualifications and years of
experience, the pay may be higher than this range, as candidate pay will
commensurate with experience.
