Status:
This is a full-time exempt position, that can be remote, hybrid, or in-office, depending on the right candidate based in New York State. The salary range is $60,000-$75,000 plus benefits.
Position Vision:
The Director of Preservation serves as the Preservation League’s chief preservation professional. Responsibilities include planning and directing all aspects of the organization’s grants and technical services programs including oversight of our Seven to Save Endangered Properties Program, on-site and virtual workshops, and community outreach. The Director will work to expand the reach and effectiveness of this programming with a particular focus on advancing the cultural heritage of New York’s historically underrepresented communities and addressing the impact of climate change on historic resources. Regular travel will be required for this position.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact for technical preservation assistance to individuals, organizations and municipalities seeking creative solutions to preservation challenges.
- Plan, develop, and implement technical workshops and other meetings throughout the state.
- Serve as a member of the League’s leadership team to advance the preservation, diversity, and climate action goals of the League.
- Work closely with preservation advocacy groups throughout the state to develop partnerships and new program opportunities.
- Speak at community meetings, workshops and conferences.
- Manage the selection of the Seven to Save biennial endangered property list and the crafting and implementation of their annual workplans.
- Manage the League’s Grants and Technical Services Manager.
- Staff various committees of the board including the Technical Services and Seven to Save Committees.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Work with the Director of Development and President to seek funding for preservation initiatives.
- Oversee special projects as they arise, directing and delegating as appropriate.
- Regularly provide updated content for the League’s website, print and social media platforms.
- Work closely with the League’s Director of Communications on public-facing communications strategies.
- Manage project-specific interns and consultants as needed.
Additional special projects as assigned by the President.
This position reports to the League President.
Qualifications:
- A degree in historic preservation or a closely related field; graduate degree preferred.
- At least 3 years of professional experience in the historic preservation field.
- Ability to work constructively as part of a team, as well as to independently identify and complete tasks.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel and Access.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including phone, email, and in-person.
- Experience managing staff or interns.
- Valid NYS drivers license is required.
