Job Opportunities at The Ringling Museum (Sarasota, FL)

The Ringling is seeking an Objects Conservation Fellow.  This role is a 12-month visiting A&P appointment, working as a member of the Collections department at The John & Mable Ringling Museum of Art. Under the supervision of the Conservator of Sculpture and Decorative Arts and Chief Conservator, and in accordance with the AIC Code of Ethics and Guidelines for Practice, the Fellow conducts conservation examination, documentation, treatment, and research, primarily for three-dimensional objects but occasionally on other objects as required.

Qualifications include: 

  • Master's Degree in Art Conservation or related field, or a combination of education and equivalent professional training and/or experience equal to six years.
  • Please note higher education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.
  • Demonstrated ability in the examination, documentation, and conservation treatment of a variety of museum object types.
  • Knowledge of the history of art and artists’ techniques.
  • Knowledge & ability to:
  • Safely operate machinery, tools, equipment and materials used in area of work.
  • Apply the processes, procedures and methods used in museum operations in compliance with applicable governing entities such as the American Alliance of Museums.
  • Ability to:
  • Utilize technical skills in the area of art/object conservation.
  • Travel nationally or internationally when necessary to serve as a museum courier.
