JOB TITLE: #1827 Site Manager III, Ramsey & Hill House 
LOCATION: James J. Hill House, 240 Summit Ave, St Paul, MN 55102; 
Alexander Ramsey House, 265 S Exchange St, St Paul, MN 55102 
COMPENSATION: $72,240.00 annual minimum, commensurate with experience 
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2.080 annual hours) position. Must be able to work a flexible schedule when needed, including evenings and weekends. 
BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in State Employee Group Insurance Program and a retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to provide overall management and professional administration of the Alexander Ramsey House and James J. Hill House. The Site Manager III, Ramsey & Hill House has responsibility for each site’s planning and development, interpretive program, staff selection and supervision, budget, publicity, resale program, maintenance of overall site and preservation of site collections in line with the policies and procedures of the Minnesota Historical Society. 

SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Manage and coordinate site programs, special events, and rental operations so that institutional and division goals and objectives are fulfilled in accordance with institutional and professional standards; 2) Select, coordinate and manage human resources so that staff are properly trained and adequately supervised; 3) Develop and implement site public education programs so that the visiting public is educated and engaged in the learning process and current scholarship is maintained; 4) Oversee and coordinate the preservation and maintenance of all site structures and grounds to maintain structural integrity and to ensure maximum visitor and staff safety; 5) Secure, budget, disburse and monitor state and non-state fiscal resources so that the site operates effectively, efficiently and according to MNHS policies and procedures; 6) Oversee and manage sites’ collections so that they are handled and cared for according to professional standards; 7) Represent MNHS with the Board of Governors; and 8) Participate in MNHS marketing and communications program so that each site is effectively publicized, promoted and marketed; develop relationships with surrounding communities and constituencies to promote the site’s interests. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent. 
- Six years managing museum operations, business administration, or related management experience, including supervising staff.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule when needed, including evenings and weekends and being on-call. 
- Ability to work in an environment where the air quality may contain dust, mold or other airborne particles. 
- Ability to work in an environment with unregulated temperatures (historic houses that have no air conditioning throughout) and outside. 
- Required to lift and carry files and objects up to 30 pounds independently and over 30 pounds with a partner lift. 
- Valid driver’s license. 
- Ability and willingness to travel. 


DEMONSTRATED SKILLS IN: 
- Creating, fostering, and leading a collaborative team environment that values individuals’ diversity of expertise, experience, and perspective while working towards common goals.

- Planning, organizing and managing complex budgets and multi-faceted projects/programs within a large institution. 
- Retail sales, operations, event management. 
- Program development, implementation and evaluation. 
- Customer service and interpersonal communications skills sufficient to establish and maintain effective working relationships. 
- Demonstrated innovative and entrepreneurial leadership or programmatic. 
- Multitasking, working effectively under pressure to meet deadlines, prioritizing and adapting to changing priorities. 
- Creating work plans and setting objectives, and prioritizing to meet evolving department and institutional goals. 
- Working independently and taking individual initiative while also being able to collaborate effectively and contribute positively in a team environment. 
- Communication, both orally and written, including preparing and delivering reports and presentations. 
- Creating positive partnerships and relationships within an organization and with external partners. 
- Gathering data, analyzing, and organizing information into action plans. 
- Computer skills, specifically Google applications. 
KNOWLEDGE OF: 
- Knowledge of and ability in historical interpretation methodology and techniques sufficient to develop and implement interpretive programs. 
- Project management principles. 
- Minnesota History and MNHS programming. 


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
- Master’s degree in History, Museum Studies, or related field. 
- Knowledge of preservation, maintenance, and security methods for historic structures, grounds, and cultural landscapes. 
- Knowledge of curatorial practices as they apply to both two- and three-dimensional objects.
