Are you looking for a better environment for your career?

EDR has immediate openings for experienced, team-oriented Historic Preservation/Section 106 Specialists with demonstrated expertise in historic properties documentation and assessment, Cultural Resources Management, and Section 106 consultation. This role will be focused on cultural resources surveys and permitting compliance for renewable energy, transportation, and infrastructure projects, as well as historic preservation planning projects and preparation of historic rehabilitation tax credit applications.

This role is a full-time position and may be either remote or report to one of EDR’s offices in New York (Syracuse, Rochester, Albany, Saratoga Springs, White Plains), Ohio (Columbus), New Hampshire (Portsmouth), or Pennsylvania (Hershey). The ideal candidate will meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Historic Preservation Qualification Standards in History, Historic Architecture, and/or Architectural History (Appendix A, 36 CFR Part 61) and have a MA/MS in Historic Preservation Planning, History, or similar field of study. Candidates considered for this role will have between 5 and 10 years of experience in a similar or related position in a professional setting. Candidates with more than 10 years of experience are also encouraged to apply.

Essential skills include:

- Demonstrated experience writing technical reports, leading engagement and consultation with stakeholders, and representing projects to federal and state agencies in the context of Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and/or the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA).
- Demonstrated experience in preparing National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility assessments.
- Agency consultation including State Historic Preservation Offices (SHPOs), and other state and federal agencies.
- Demonstrated experience evaluating adverse effects to historic properties, with an emphasis on consideration of visual impacts to historic properties.
- Strong research abilities including independently coordinating and conducting targeted research at local, state, and national repositories to document the history of properties and provide information for the development of historic context statements.
- Strong writing skills and demonstrated ability to prepare cultural resources reports, including documents such as historic resources surveys, NRHP nominations, Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credit applications, heritage/preservation treatment and management plans, historic structure reports, and similar types of studies.
- Ability to travel (locally and out of state when required), including the need for overnight stays based on project demands.
- Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions at times for extended hours (over 8) and multiple days as needed.

Additional preferred skills include:

- Experience as lead investigator for cultural resources surveys.
- Experience drafting scopes of work and cost proposals as well as direct client interactions.
- Working knowledge of GIS and GPS technology, mapping, analysis, and data processing.
- Experience supervising and mentoring junior staff (for candidates with several years’ experience).

The anticipated base pay range of $65,000-$80,000 per year is commensurate with experience. EDR reserves the right to pay outside of the target range based on an individual’s education, credentials, skill level and relevant experience, as well as internal pay equity, geographic location, and business needs.
