By joining our Division of Environmental Analysis, Cultural Resources Branch as a/an Historic Preservation Coordinator in Franklin County, you’ll have the opportunity to review, analyze and perform intermediately complex engineering activities and work to obtain and develop professional engineering techniques.

Holders of the Historic Preservation Coordinator position will complete tasks such as:

-Completes research, fieldwork, and reports to document historic properties that may be affected by transportation projects.
-Requests proposals and oversees, coordinates, and reviews the work of contracted consultants as necessary to identify and document historic properties.
-Coordinates the work of the first two tasks with the appropriate regulatory and federal agencies to obtain necessary environmental clearances.
-Provides assistance and technical oversight to KYTC in the evaluation of laws and regulations as they pertain to the Cabinet's obligations regarding environmental and natural resource polices.

Holders of this job will obtain the following skills:

-Applicant should possess and will gain an increased familiarity with Section 106, Section 4(f), and NEPA.
-Applicant should possess and will gain an increased familiarity with Section 106, Section 4(f), and NEPA.
-Applicant should possess and will gain an increased familiarity with methods of identifying, recording, and assessing the significance of a wide variety of cultural resources.
-An increased familiarity with the use and applicability of Geographic Information Systems and LiDAR to aid in the identification and assessment of historic resources.

Desired candidates possess the following requisite skills or experience applicable to the position:

-Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in architectural history, American studies, American civilization, folklore, cultural geography, historic preservation, early American culture, museum management, art history or a related field.
-Four years experience in historic preservation programs.
-One year of experience working with Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) guidelines and regulations relative to cultural-historic architectural analyses of transportation projects must be demonstrated, including familiarity with the Section 106 process and Section 4(f).
-One year of experience working in and knowledge of the architecture and history of the Ohio River Valley as a context to aid in assessment of assessing the significance of any identified cultural resources.

While the majority of work will be performed in an office setting, some travel will be required. Some work will be performed in an outdoor setting, and may include traversing uneven terrain, exposure to the elements, and other typical hazards one may encounter outdoors.

Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: Graduate of a college or university with a master's degree in anthropology, archeology, architectural history, architecture, historic preservation, history, American studies, American civilization, folklore, cultural geography, early American culture, museum management, art history or a related field.

EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: Two years of professional experience in the field of historic preservation.

Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: A doctorate in one of the above listed academic fields will substitute for two years of the required experience.

Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Additional experience in historic preservation, cultural resource management, or a related field will substitute for the master's degree on a year-for-year basis up to a maximum of two years.

Working Conditions - Work is typically performed in an office setting.
Probationary Period - This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
