1909 Graphic Designer, Minnesota Historical Society (St. Paul, MN)

JOB TITLE: Graphic Designer 
LOCATION: History Center - 345 W Kellogg Blvd., St. Paul, MN 55102 COMPENSATION: $61,588.80 annual minimum 
STATUS & HOURS: Full-time, regular (approximately 2,080 annual hours) position. 
BENEFITS: Eligible to participate in State Employee Group Insurance Program and a retirement program with employer contribution. Generous vacation and sick time accruals with additional paid holidays.

DESCRIPTION: This position exists to create, support, and adapt the visual identity of the Minnesota Historical Society in advertising, print materials, signage, digital media, and any platforms where MNHS has a presence. The position also works within a creative services team to manage relationships, assets, style guides, best practices, and quality control. 

SUMMARY OF WORK: 1) Lead design of visual materials (including digital and print ads, brochures, flyers, posters, reports, etc.) consistent with program objectives, brand guidelines, and budgetary constraints; 2) Coordinate with internal and external partners to create efficient workflows; 3) Source and maintain approved visual assets for use on multiple platforms; 4) Provide quality assurance and advise on visual brand direction; and 5) Serves as catalyst for proactive change, ensuring that MNHS uses the latest and most effective design to market and communicate its services to the public. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field, plus seven years of experience, or equivalent

- Proven design or production experience in seeing projects from conception to completion

- Mastery of layout design and photo editing tools (Adobe Creative Suite, including InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects) 
- Proven experience with the layout for longer-format projects, (e.g. annual reports, multi-page booklets) 
- Working knowledge of digital file formats, which tools to use, and when to work with them

- Ability to organize simultaneous projects, set priorities, develop budgets, and meet deadlines while managing creative ideals. 
- Working knowledge and experience with Google Workspace or Microsoft Office tools

- Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal skills. 
- Strong attention to detail and project management skills. 
- Demonstrated ability to work well under pressure and with high work standards and tight time deadlines.
- Must be self-motivated, and be able to work with others as a team. 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS: 
- Proven design and desktop publishing experience in a variety of print formats from brochures to large-format. 
- Experience with a variety of design processes and methodology 
- Experience with video and motion graphics 
- Design experience in an agency setting (e.g. ad/marketing/PR) or internal marketing department.

- Familiarity with digital asset management 
- Familiarity with digital encoding and file compression 
- Experience in copywriting and editing. 
- Familiar with project management software (Trello, Asana, Teamwork, Smartsheets, Basecamp, etc.).
