TerraXplorations, Inc. (TerraX)
is a Cultural Resources Management firm specializing in public- and
private-sector archaeology and architectural history. Since 2012, TerraX has
combined the latest mapping and research tools with digging holes and knocking
on doors to unearth the Southeast’s collective history and guide its future.
Throughout the 400+ projects completed annually, TerraX focuses on balancing
development with documenting and preserving cultural resources for generations
to come. TerraX is seeking an On-Call Architectural Historian who meets the
below qualifications to work remotely evaluating projects for compliance with
relevant regulations, specifically Section 106.
Job Functions
Communicate with internal
departments regarding projects, company goals and deadlines, and for any other
interdisciplinary needs
Conduct fieldwork
Review all field survey photos
Drafting descriptions and
evaluations for resources utilizing National Register and applicable state
regulations and guidelines
Completing all relevant state or
federal required report support items, such as resource forms, NRHP nomination
forms, Google Earth kmzs, and resource tables.
Update all project tracking based
on the completion of tasks
Qualifications
A master’s degree in history,
architectural history, art history, historic preservation, or a closely related
field or a bachelor’s degree in history, architectural history, art history,
historic preservation, or a closely related field with a minimum of one year of
experience
Preferred Qualifications
Experience describing and
evaluating resources for NRHP eligibility
Experience planning and executing
architectural surveys
Thorough knowledge of American
architectural history
Familiarity with Adobe InDesign
and Bridge, Google Earth Pro, and Microsoft Office or Google Suite
Ability to constructively receive
feedback regarding resource descriptions evaluations
Experience utilizing a variety of
primary and secondary sources to research historic resources
Ability to develop contextual
narratives to inform resource evaluations
Understanding of Chicago or
Society for American Archaeology citation styles
Additional Requirements
Self-motivated and able to
prioritize projects with minimal supervision
Excellent writing skills
Ability to travel regionally, up
to 25 percent, and work remotely
Reliable computer with internet
access
The On-Call Architectural
Historian position is an hourly, on-call position, which may result in up to 30
hours per week (dependent on project needs). The anticipated compensation range
is $18.75-25.24 per hour, commensurate with experience. To apply, send your
