Cultural Resource Analysts, Inc. seeks a Mid-Level Architectural Historian to work in
association with our Knoxville, Tennessee office.
Employment Type: Salaried; Full-Time
Compensation: $50,000 to $70,000, depending on experience
Applicants should have an understanding of the National Historic
Preservation Act (NHPA) and applicable Section 106 regulations. Previous
experience with some or all of the following is required: architectural
resource surveys, Section 106 compliance, and/or National Register of Historic
Places nominations. Previous experience with HABS/HAER documentation, design
guidelines, historic structure reports, preservation planning, and/or
researching and designing interpretive materials such as signage and brochures
also is desirable. Knowledge of Tennessee Historical Commission and Tennessee
Department of Transportation survey guidelines is a plus.
Responsibilities:
Completing historic architectural resource surveys from start to finish, including background research, context development, field documentation, report writing, and survey form preparation.
Evaluating historic architectural resources in relation to the National Register of Historic Places (NHRP) criteria and within the framework of the historic and architectural contexts developed for the project.
Assessing the effects of proposed undertakings on identified historic properties, in accordance with the regulations found at 36CFR Part 800.
Developing recommendations for the elimination, minimization, or mitigation of adverse effects (when appropriate), and assisting clients with Section 106 consultation to resolve adverse effects.
Leading, or contributing to, the development of other types of historic preservation documents, including National Register nominations, state-level and HABS/HAER/HALS documentation, historic context studies, historic preservation plans, and other projects as assigned.
Qualifications:
Possess a Master’s degree in historic preservation, architectural history, history, or related field;
Meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications in Architectural History;
Demonstrate at least three years of relevant experience;
Work well independently and as a team member;
Have excellent technical writing skills;
Be able to work within project budgets and schedules; and
Have the flexibility to travel overnight for projects.
