Navigating Congress and the Administration: Insights from the National Trust’s Latest Webinar
Historic Preservation Blog from PreservationDirectory.com -

From the National Trust for Historic Preservation:

In February, more than 800 preservation advocates joined the National Trust’s Forum Webinar: Navigating Congress and the Administration in 2025 and Beyond.
Led by members of the National Trust’s Government Relations team, along with colleagues from the National Trust Community Investment Corporation and Main Street America, the discussion focused on what the new Administration and Republican-controlled Congress mean for historic preservation.

The webinar provided an overview of key policy changes and executive orders that have created uncertainty in the preservation community.

With shifting federal priorities and ongoing questions about the legality and impact of recent directives, advocates must stay informed and engaged to protect preservation programs and ensure strong funding levels.

Panelists explored strategies for strengthening the historic tax credit, securing federal funding for preservation initiatives, and identifying new champions in Congress to support preservation policies.

They also addressed widespread concerns about the federal workforce and how staffing reductions across agencies could affect preservation efforts.
This moment demands informed and coordinated advocacy.

We will continue to track policy developments and provide the guidance and tools advocates need to be effective stewards of places that matter.

An extended Q&A is available here, covering topics that were not fully addressed during the session.
