From Preservation Action:
The Advisory Council for Historic Preservation (ACHP) and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) are currently accepting nominations for the 2022-2023 Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation. The joint award between ACHP and HUD honors historic preservation efforts with affordable housing and community revitalization successes. The award recognizes developers, organizations, and agencies for their success in advancing the goals of historic preservation while providing affordable housing and/or expanded economic opportunities for low and moderate-income families and individuals.
In 2021, the award recognized the Milwaukee Soldier's Home in Milwaukee, WI, which repurposed several historic buildings built as a home for disabled soldiers after the Civil War into veterans' housing. Now the Milwaukee Soldier's home includes 101 units of housing as well as support services for veterans and their families at risk of homelessness.
