As we await updates on the Palisades fire, we acknowledge that we cannot return to business as usual. We will hold our Downtown Walking Tour this Saturday, but we encourage monitoring the air quality and wearing masks as appropriate for outdoor activities (N95 masks are available at all Los Angeles Public Library locations).
We've received a few inquiries about the fire's impact on local architectural landmarks in Santa Monica and the Pacific Palisades. The City of Santa Monica has confirmed no property losses or active fires. Unfortunately, given the uncertainty of the fires, we do not have the information to address any questions about specific properties in the Palisades; we will share updates as we learn more.
On Historic Properties
Our partner organization, LA Conservancy, developed a partial list of historical landmarks affected by the Palisades and Eaton fires. You can view the list here. You can find resources for historic property and legacy business owners impacted by the wildfires on the same page.
If you have any information regarding historical places or legacy businesses in Santa Monica that the fire may have impacted, please email melina@smconservancy.org.
General Support
We are aggregating a more comprehensive list of resources to distribute to our members whom the fires may have impacted. For now, share these resources for immediate relief support, as needed:
- In this spreadsheet, the Mutual Aid Network aggregates mutual aid resources by aid type (e.g., Free Prepared Meals, Donation Drives, and Shelter). You can viewthis list as a map here.
- View hotel evacuation rates, restaurant discounts, and restaurants offering free meals in Santa Monica here.
- You can pick up food, clothing, or other supplies at the Venice Helping Hub. Someone can deliver if you cannot pick up supplies at the center.
- View Santa Monica College's Disaster Relief Resources list here.
- View emergency resources for the Los Angeles Arts and Culture sector here.
Mutual Aid and Volunteer Opportunities
- You may also volunteer for the Venice Helping Hub -- shout out to the Samohi students who joined in to help! Find their volunteer sign-ups here.
- Donate supplies or funds to support our community in Santa Monica through Santa Monica College Disaster Support.
- Join other disaster relief efforts through in-person volunteer opportunities throughout Santa Monica and Greater Los Angeles.
Thank you to all the first responders, volunteers, and community organizations supporting our community through this difficult time.
It's encouraging to see how many community members throughout Santa Monica and Greater Los Angeles are banding together to support residents and first responders.
Stay safe.
