The NYC Department of Transportation division of Traffic, Engineering, and Planning (TEP) is seeking a candidate with strong organizational skills, including the ability to track and remain engaged with multiple projects, who, under general direction, with broad latitude for the exercise of independent judgment and initiative, undertakes technical assignments, prepares and performs technical reviews, and participates in planning, organizational, and policy determinations in the DOT as they apply to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966, Title 36 of the Code of Federal Regulations, Part 800 (36 CFR 800), and Section 14.09 of the New York State Historic Preservation Act.

The candidate should be comfortable considering “above-ground” requirements of Section 106 and Section 14.09, such as project screening, assessing eligibility and effects, and public consultation.
The candidate formulates standards, plans, and programs related to the Historic Preservation of DOT projects; and develops, organizes, and supervises related investigations. The candidate conducts research in architectural and urban history. The candidate reads and comprehends architectural and infrastructure drawings and has demonstrated experience working on multiple projects that interface with multiple internal and external departments and stakeholders with competing schedules and priorities. The candidate liaises with Federal, State, and other City agencies and community groups. The candidate advises, assists, and consults with architects and engineers on project plans that may affect City landmarks. The candidate maintains files related to the department’s work, including maps, photographs, and schedules.
