RESEARCH ASSOCIATE / PROGRAM COORDINATOR
The Center for the Preservation of Civil Rights Sites (CPCRS) seeks applications for a Research Associate, a faculty position, as the Program Coordinator. The Center for the Preservation of Civil Rights Sites works to advance the understanding and sustainable conservation of heritage places commemorating American civil rights histories and Black heritage. The Center is a part of the Weitzman School of Design at the University of Pennsylvania. The Program Coordinator position is supported by a multi-year Andrew Mellon Foundation grant to build capacity among partner institutions to advance the historic preservation of places of civil rights heritage significant to the Black experience in the US.
The Program Coordinator will manage research and programmatic activities and support the Center’s administrative areas in financial operations and development. This position will work closely with a small team of collaborators and report to the Center’s Director.
The principal tasks and responsibilities of the Program Coordinator will include:
- Managing and supporting graduate student internships and fellowships
- Assisting in the on-boarding of new hires, consultants, and contractors
- Helping process payments for collaborators
- Producing reports, documents, and social media posts
- Coordinating logistics for meetings, workshops, and academic gatherings related to the Center, including quarterly advisors' meetings
- Collaborating closely with the Center’s other staff and advisors
- Collaborating on Center planning, strategy, and operations
Details:
Full-time, salaried position ($65,000) with certain benefits, available to the rank of research associates. One-year contract renewable each year for up to three years.

Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required; graduate degree in historic preservation or related field is highly desirable
- Experience (2-4 years) in project management, student engagement, and managing long-term complex partnership projects
- Knowledge of the National Register of Historic Places process and National Historic Landmarks Program
- Experience with Adobe Suite and Microsoft Office Suite preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
