Salary: Full time, $60,000 - $70,000
Goodwood Museum & Gardens connects the Tallahassee community as a
setting in which we preserve and share our history, enjoy the arts, and
celebrate significant events in our lives.
Goodwood Museum & Gardens offers cultural programming
set amidst historic architecture and heirloom gardens. The 21-acre property is
an intact cultural landscape with 16 historic structures and expansive gardens
reflecting 200 years of history. Programming includes music, theater, visual
arts, permanent and special exhibits, and educational offerings for all ages.

at Goodwood, contributing to a vibrant, healthy community with a high quality
of life.
Goodwood
Museum and Gardens is seeking an experienced Executive Director who is
passionate about our mission and able to lead our organization with excellence.
The Executive Director will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of the
organization’s operations, including museum management, fundraising, program
development, financial management, and staff supervision.
Our ideal
candidate will be a motivational leader with a proven track record of success
in nonprofit management. They will be passionate about our organization’s
mission and committed to achieving our goals. The Executive Director will be a
strategic thinker who is able to balance short-term needs with long-term
planning. They will have excellent communication skills and be able to
represent our organization to a variety of audiences.
Responsibilities
include the following:
- Board
Governance: The executive
director will work with the Board of Directors
to develop and implement policies and procedures that support the
organization’s mission and goals, including assisting with Board recruitment, orientation certification and development.
- Communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and to make informed decisions.
- Museum Management: The executive director is responsible for the
financial management, acquisitions, preservation, research, interpretation, and
presentation of the museum in accordance with accepted museum industry
standards and professional practices. Duties include collaborating with staff, volunteers and professional archivists to maintain collection of artifacts and preserve the history of Goodwood.
- Developing new exhibits and events to engage local artists and community members that support our mission.
- Supervising programming related to Goodwood Collections.
- Designing and leading equity related projects and programs that facilitate creative and inclusive experiences.
- Representing Goodwood before various professional organizations, governmental boards, committees and panels.
- Assisting with evening and weekend events and bookings as needed
-Organizational Administration: The executive director
is responsible for the planning, direction, supervision, and coordination of
actions by the staff, including supervising the Operations Manager, Marketing and Programming Manager, Director of Rentals and Events and Development Director.
-Financial Management: The executive director is responsible for
budget oversight and reporting as well as grant management, including ensuring the fiscal integrity of the organization, to include submission to the Board of a proposed annual budget and monthly financial statements, which accurately reflect the financial condition of the organization.
- Collaborating with the Board of Directors and
other stakeholders to identify opportunities for revenue growth and cost
savings, while also ensuring that the organization remains financially
sustainable to the long term.
- Ensuring all bookkeeping tasks are performed on a timely basis.
-Developing the annual budget in coordination with staff and Executive Committee.
- Working with investment advisors at the direction of the Board to make changes to monetary accounts including transfers to and from such accounts.
Qualifications
Needed
- A bachelor’s degree (Master’s Degree preferred)
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in nonprofit management or a related field.
- Strong leadership, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Demonstrated experience in successful fundraising and development.
- Demonstrated successful grant writing and management skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively with staff, the Board of Directors, donors, sponsors, and other stakeholders.
- Knowledge of the principles and practices of project planning, implementation and evaluation. (Additional experience with capital campaigns is preferred.)
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat Pro or similar software. Familiarity with social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram and X.
