Location: Downtown - St. Louis, MO
Incumbent in this position reports to the Planning and Urban Design Agency (PUDA) Director and is responsible for managing and administering architectural and urban design review and preservation for the Cultural Resources Office. The Office is responsible for the following: designation of historic districts and landmarks, providing regulation of construction, alteration and demolition in historic districts and of landmarks; providing design review of construction in certain public places and of public property, and for staffing the Preservation Board.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Management and administration of the Cultural Resources Office (CRO) and staff 5 members.
- Support and manage the staffing needs of the 9-member Preservation Board.
- Provide advice and design review to property owners, developers, local officials and organizations involved in preservation projects.
- Maintain the status of the Cultural Resources Office as a Certified Local Government.
- Promotion of historic/cultural resources as amenities and assets of the City of St. Louis as protected by various laws and regulations.
- Supervision of consultants and grant funded projects.
- Identify potential funding sources that can assist the CRO in achieving its goals.
- Advocacy of use of technology in the conduct of the Cultural Resources Office including the supervision of CRO maintained websites.
Qualifications
A Bachelor’s degree in Architecture, Urban Design, Historic Preservation, or a related field; plus seven years of professional experience in historic/architectural preservation, urban design, or a related field that includes at least two years in a management capacity. OR an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
Preferences
- Ten years of professional experience in historic/architectural preservation, urban design, or a related field.
- 5 years of experience in a management capacity.
- 3 years of experience in a government agency.
