AFNHA AmeriCorps members provide a term of National Service, allowing an individual to benefit local communities & landscapes while gaining professional experience & strengthening skills.
Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area (AFNHA) is seeking AmeriCorps members for cultural heritage related positions for the program year beginning September 4, 2024. Positions are one year with a living stipend provided ($21,000). The Segal Education Award ($7,395) and a West Virginia Tuition Waiver is granted to those that successfully complete the full year. Available position locations span across eastern West Virginia and provide support to local communities through projects that support asset improvement or educational stewardship related to community development, historic preservation, and cultural heritage, among other activities. Help rural communities with economic development based on their cultural heritage resources and tourism assets. Learn about historic interpretation and preservation at museums or historic sites, or outreach and event planning at community development organizations. Members serve with historical sites, museums, and visitor centers preserve and interpret historic assets, and also assist partners to promote and celebrate local artists and Appalachian culture! They create exhibits, organize archives, lead history tours, support events and festivals, preserve historic structures, and encourage heritage tourism visitors.
The Appalachian Forest National Heritage Area conserves, interprets, and promotes forest heritage to enhance landscapes and communities in the highlands of West Virginia and Maryland. AFNHA works with partners to accomplish this through community development, conservation, celebrating cultural heritage, and creating opportunities for transformational experiences.
