The Planning Department is seeking an individual to serve as the Historic Preservation Officer and to administer the historic preservation programs for the City of Lincoln and Lancaster County. Salary $71,793.28 - $95,763.20 Annually. Job posting closes August 4, 2024.

The Historic Preservation program in Lincoln has continued to evolve and advance. The successful candidate will continue to maintain our digital records, will engage with members of the public, and will advise City staff and elected officials on important preservation policies and practices. In addition, the successful candidate will manage the CLG program and a National Parks Service grant to research Underrepresented Communities - specifically the history of women in the trades.

Considerable independent judgment is required in interpreting and adapting professional standards and principles as well as official policies, ordinances, regulations, and guidelines to routine and unusual urban design and planning issues.

General supervision, review of work items, and establishment of goals is completed in consultation with the Long-Range Planning Manager and Planning Director. Strong design skills, ability to communicate project concepts to a wide audience, and effective interpersonal abilities are paramount.

Planning and/or experience with historic preservation programs is required and completion of studies with a master's degree in planning, historic preservation, architecture, or related field is desirable. Certification from the American Institute of Certified Planners is encouraged (AICP).
