Historian Needed – Full-time: 30-40 hours per week

Broadbent & Associates, Inc. is seeking curriculum vitae from qualified candidates for a Project Historian. This is a permanent, full-time, salaried position. Located in Las Vegas, Nevada, or Phoenix, Arizona, preferred; however, remote work is a possibility. Candidates may have a specialty in architectural history, anthropology, or historical, industrial, or prehistoric archaeology. The successful candidate will be expected to conduct primary and secondary research and prepare detailed and thorough historic and pre-historic contexts, papers or articles for publication, outreach and presentation materials, and other project deliverables as assigned; and be willing to travel to conduct personal interviews, conduct primary research, and assist with fieldwork if needed. The successful candidate will actively collaborate with the cultural resources teams in Reno, Nevada; Denver, Colorado; and Phoenix, Arizona. The candidate must demonstrate a mix of office and field skills. Applicant will be required to submit three writing samples to include a) historic context or historical paper submitted for grade or publication; and b) historical research design.

Broadbent is an engineering and environmental consulting company founded in 1987. With over 140 employees, Broadbent serves a range of clients from in the western United States. Broadbent’s cultural resources team currently includes five professional full-time staff in our Reno office, two full-time archaeologists in our Denver office, and a full-time architectural historian in our Phoenix office. The cultural resources department is led by Ms. Margo Memmott out of the Reno office. Our cultural resources team is supported by an ArcGIS/Database Specialist, Broadbent’s administrative staff, and an additional network of temporary/seasonal field staff.

Minimum Requirements
Candidate must minimally meet the Secretary of the Interior’s Professional Qualifications Standards:
Graduate degree in history or closely related field (Archaeology, Anthropology, Architectural History); or a bachelor's degree in history or closely related field plus one of the following:
At least two years of full-time experience in research, writing, teaching, interpretation, or other demonstrable professional activity with an academic institution, historic organization or agency, museum, or other professional institution; or
Substantial contribution through research and publication to the body of scholarly knowledge in the field of history.
Ability to conduct primary and secondary research from a variety of sources, including (but not limited to) archives, books, artifacts, interviews, and government records;
Ability to use the historical method to evaluate the authenticity and significance of historical information for use in developing an accurate and thorough historic context;
Demonstrated ability to write/produce reports and other written communication deliverables to the standards defined by the involved local, state, and federal agencies, including the State Historic Preservation Office;
Ability to perform both fieldwork activities and office tasks independently or with a team;
Candidate must be familiar with the full suite of Office 365 and Adobe applications, and GPS software for use in the field.

Compensation
Weekly schedule of either 30 or 40 hours. Flexible work location - hybrid, work-from-home, or office. Out-of-town fieldwork as required.  Annual salary is between $52,000 and $80,000 (based on 40-hour week), commensurate with education, training, and experience.
