Discover first-hand the history and geography of wine and food in Tuscany. Curated exclusively for SAH by experts in architectural history and the philosophy of food, Food x Architecture focuses on mostly small-scale and family-owned food and wine operations. You will meet and engage with the owner-operators and experience Chianti’s story of tradition and transformation from their perspective within the historic places where they live and work.

This 4-day, 3-night trip unfolds through visits to vineyards, guided walks through the countryside, conversations with stakeholders, and specially designed meals at local venues.

Engage in the historical dialogue between the cultures of wine cultivation and the villages and built structures that developed around its production. Chianti’s modern landscape is the result of centuries of negotiation between nature, farming, and human habitation. Find out the many, often surprising, ways in which the movement of people, plants, aesthetics, and cultural and social practices have played an integral part in creating Chianti.

Reservations for Food x Architecture will open on January 15, 2025 and will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. Price per person is $4,100 for a double-occupancy room, or $4,370 for single-occupancy. A deposit of $1,000 is due at the time of reservation and will be applied to the full cost of the program.

Therefore, the listed total price includes a $2,000 tax-deductible donation to the Society of Architectural Historians.
