Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) Presents Camp Santanoni Art and Music Day

July 27, 2024

Town of Newcomb, New York– Adirondack Architectural Heritage (AARCH) presents Camp Santanoni Art and Music Day, on July 27th, from 10am to 6pm. Built for Robert and Anna Pruyn of Albany, New York, Camp Santanoni and the surrounding preserve served as a refuge in nature and a muse for artists. This event celebrates the vibrant role that art and music have played at Santanoni.

From evening songs around the campfire and Edward Lansing Pruyn’s plein-air paintings, to Anna’s photographs and nature terrariums, art and music played a central role at Camp Santanoni, a National Historic Landmark in the town of Newcomb. Family and guests sang songs at the piano and campfire, danced to local fiddle music, and devoted time to sketching, painting, and photography in addition to fishing, paddling, and hiking. On July 27th, AARCH will offer programs, activities, and opportunities to celebrate and engage with art across the historic site.

This free open house includes activities across the site’s three complexes: the Gate Lodge (trailhead), Farm (1 mile hike or bike), and Main Camp (4.5 mile hike, bike, or wagon ride). Join us and learn more about art in the Adirondacks from local artists, bring your own art supplies to join in, or participate in coloring and art activities with friends and family. Santanoni staff and volunteers will be available to answer questions about the day’s activities across the estate.

The day’s schedule is as follows:
Gate Lodge Complex (Trailhead below the parking lot)
10 am—3 pm Plein-Air Artists Gathering
10 am—4 pm Art & Activity Table
4—6pm Live Guitar Music by Johnathon Walker
Farm Complex (1 mile from Trailhead)
10 am—3 pm Art & Activity Table
2 pm Farm Tour
Main Camp (4.5 miles from Trailhead)
11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm Art and Music Tours
10 am—3 pm Art & Activity Table

“We look forward to welcoming all skill levels as we celebrate the interconnection of Adirondack art, music, history, and nature,” said Erin Tobin, Executive Director of Adirondack Architectural Heritage. “Join us for this first-of-its-kind event!”
