Louisiana State Historic Tax Credit Under Threat
Historic Preservation Blog from PreservationDirectory.com -

Louisiana's state historic tax credit is currently under threat. Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry has proposed an overhaul of the state's tax code and in one of these proposals calls for the elimination of all state tax credit programs, including the state historic tax credit. The Governor has called for a special legislative session that will start this week, setting the stage for a showdown to protect Louisiana's historic tax credit.

Louisiana provides a 25% tax credit on qualified historic rehabilitation expenditures and a 35% tax credit for projects in rural areas. Louisiana has one of the most successful historic tax credits in the country, helping to revitalize communities across the state. Combined with the federal Historic Tax Credit program,  Louisiana has consistently ranked as one of the top performing states in the nation, both for the number of historic rehabilitation projects completed and dollars leveraged. Since the program was established in 2002, the historic tax credit has restored more than 1,800 structures across Louisiana. The credit drives economic development- the state sees a return of almost $9 in economic activity for every $1 spend on the credit.

If you live or work in Louisiana, reach out to your state legislators today and urge them to protect the this vital tax credit. Check out the advocacy alert from the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleans to learn more and take action today!
