Salary: $1,992.82 – $2,083.33 semi-monthly

*Salary may be commensurate of education and/or experience

Job Location: This position is with the Missouri Department of Natural Resources, Missouri State Parks, and will be located at 1659 E. Elm, Jefferson City, MO 65101. Flexibility to work at a department field location near selected candidate. This is a temporary, full-time, benefit-eligible position based upon federal ARPA funding. Position funding will end no later than December 31, 2026.

As a SHPO team member you will provide expertise in the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA), Section 106, and its implementing regulations, 36 CFR 800, while working with a diverse array of federal agencies, architects, developers, and communities. What you’ll do:
Review federal undertakings subject to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act (NHPA) of 1966 for compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties (SOI Standards)
Evaluate the significance of cultural resources and their eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places.
Provide guidance for the long-term preservation of historic properties through the application of the SOI Standards
Participate in and advise on the development of agreement documents to resolve adverse effects to historic properties.
Respond to requests for information and provide technical assistance in the treatment of historic properties
Assist in preservation planning efforts by working with federal, state, and local agencies, private individuals, and community organizations
Monitor covenants and easements on historic properties held by the department; visit and assess the condition of these properties
Provide technical expertise to the grants program through reviews of grant applications and grant products with emphasis on development and pre-development projects
Develop, prepare, and present preservation-related educational materials
Use ESRI ArcGIS tools to research, identify, and evaluate historic properties.
Maintain electronic and physical files for SHPO Programs
Update databases with current information

All you need for success:

Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree in architectural history, history, historic preservation, or closely related field and one year of relevant experience. (Other approved education or experience may be considered as a substitute for the required education or experience.)
Ability to travel to inspect project sites before, during, and after completion of a project. Inspection at sites can present exposure to uneven surfaces, lack of electricity, plumbing, and possible unsecure structures.
Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally
Knowledge of architectural history (architectural styles and architectural types), architecture, design and construction, historic preservation programs funded by the Historic Preservation Fund and their corresponding laws, regulations, and prescriptive literature (i.e., NHPA, Preservation Briefs, National Register Bulletins, etc.) , building materials and systems, preservation easements,
Knowledge of Microsoft Suite, Adobe, ArcGIS, data management systems
Possess an understanding of the SOI Treatment Standards and their application to Section 106 undertakings/consultation, grants, and easements
