Nature of work: This position serves as the Senior Architectural Historian in the Cultural Resources Section of the Environmental Planning Division (EPLD) of the Office of Planning and Preliminary Engineering (OPPE).  The Senior Architectural Historian is responsible for identifying, evaluating, treating, and documenting historic standing structures; assessing project impacts and effects to cultural resources; recommending and developing means of minimizing and mitigating adverse effects; coordinating projects with appropriate agencies; and ensuring compliance with a variety of state and federal laws and regulations to complete required review processes. The position provides leadership within a team structure and serves as a subject matter expert in architectural history and compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. The Senior Architectural Historian is responsible for providing technical assistance and training to EPLD staff and managing the SHA Historic Highway Bridge Program and consultant contracts.

Qualifications:

 
Education:  Possession of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in natural sciences, earth science, physical science, environmental science, chemistry, physics, biology, agronomy, forestry, horticultural or related sciences, geography, environmental planning, civil engineering, sociology, economics, planning, anthropology, architectural history or related fields such as ecology, landscape architecture, or environmental engineering.

Experience:  Six (6) years of experience in environmental analysis to include the development of plans, specifications, estimates, and design, OR six (6) years of experience in environmental management to include the development, implementation and monitoring of environmental compliance plans for air quality, storm water management, wastewater treatment, hazardous waste management, pollution prevention, solid waste management or multi-media operations.

Selective Qualification: 
Three (3) years of experience in professional architectural history practice and compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
