Mexican Cultural Institute Tour

September 21, 2024

Join the DC Preservation League for a tour of the Mexican Cultural Institute, housed in a historically designated mansion on 16th Street. Designed by architect Nathan Wyeth, the house was built on request by Mrs. Emily MacVeagh, wife of the Secretary of the Treasury during the Taft Administration. The mansion was the family’s residence in the 1910s, becoming the site where some of the most outstanding celebrities of that time were entertained. After Mrs. MacVeagh's death, the building was sold to the Mexican government, who added an eighteenth century Mexican altarpiece, and a three-story mural by Roberto Cueva del Río. After serving as the Mexican Embassy for sixty-nine years, the building is now in use as the Mexican Cultural Institute. Stay after the tour for a closing cocktail reception on the fourth floor for Antonio Fink's "Color and Movement" exhibition!

Tickets for this program are for DCPL Members only. Space is limited so sign up today!
